,,A WARNING has been issued about the growth of acid deposits in the North Atlantic - and the impact it could have on fish stocks.

It has come from Hrönn Egilsdóttir, a doctoral student in geology at the University of Iceland, who has said the problem is likely to have negative consequences for the ocean eco-system if it was not dealt with quickly. She added that the seas around her own country were also at risk.

Her warning comes soon after the president of Iceland, Mr Olafur Grimsson, said the aggressive melting of the sea ice was creating a new ocean and affecting fish stocks."
